Rocklin started as a small railroad town on the transcontinental railroad line that runs to the Pacific. The surrounding landscape is dotted with orchards and vineyards, while a soft amber glow fills the area during harvest season. The peaceful surroundings downtown are juxtaposed with its current city limits; Rocklin was created as a master-planned community, much like neighboring Roseville. This article will discuss the city, places to visit, demographics, and fun facts in Rocklin.

About the City

The City of Rocklin is a family-friendly city that offers the best of both worlds: small-town charm and big-city amenities. Our goal is to keep the community safe and prosperous. We do this by working with residents and businesses to maintain the high quality of life that our residents love.

It is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, making outdoor recreation one of our favorite pastimes. Rocklin has miles of hiking trails and top-notch parks, including some focused on sustainability. Rocklin’s historic downtown district has tons of great restaurants and shops, but we also boast world-class shopping areas like The Fountains at Roseville.

Rocklin is home to many colleges and universities, including Sierra College, William Jessup University, Carrington College Sacramento, Brandman University, and American River College.

Other Fun Facts

It may not have the big attractions of Sacramento or San Francisco, but Rocklin has several places worth visiting. With that in mind, here are some fun facts about Rocklin.

Gold Mine

The Gold Mine is a historic mine and tourist attraction in Rocklin, California. It is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills at 581 Feet Road and was opened in 1870 by a man named Henry Willis. The mine produced gold, silver, and quartz ore for over 100 years until it was shut down in the late 1970s. Today, there are tours of the mine, operating since 1894. Visitors can explore underground shafts and mines, see a collection of old mining equipment, learn about how gold occurs and get a sense of what life was like as a miner during the gold rush era.

Railroad Sites

A railroad was the first industry in Rocklin, and it played an integral role in the town’s development. The Central Pacific Railroad built a depot on what is now Depot Road, which was the main thoroughfare of Rocklin from 1871 to 1930. The railroad’s arrival led to the building of a hotel and lumberyard, which provided supplies for nearby gold mines. The Rocklin Depot was the first passenger station for the Central Pacific Railroad Company and was built by contractor J.L. Rand. It opened with great fanfare on December 27, 1868, with 500 people attending its dedication ceremony.
